Migrating WordPress webpages from the old system to the new system

Old system: Every user maintains their webpage via their own WordPress account.
New system: All users maintain their webpages via only one WordPress account, which is maintained by the network administrators.

To begin with, refer to the basic information to understand about the creation of the webpages on the COR@L via WordPress.

We are in the process of migrating the webpages from the old system to the new system. This migration is necessary so that we can collectively fight back the hackers and avoid hacking incidents in future. Following are the step-by-step instructions which every user has to follow, in order to comply with this migration process.

  1. Go to http://coral.ise.lehigh.edu/~username/wp-admin with the username replaced by your COR@L ID.
  2. Login with your credentials.
  3. In the Dashboard on the left hand side, select the Export option under the Tools option.
  4. Select the All content radio button under the Choose what to export section, and click the Download Export File button.
  5. Now you should be able to download an xml format file to your default download location.
  6. Logout of the WordPress account, using the Log Out option which can be found on the top right corner of the page.
  7. Go to http://coral.ise.lehigh.edu/username/wp-admin with the username replaced by your COR@L ID. Note the difference of ~ from the first step.
  8. Login with your credentials.
  9. In the Dashboard on the left hand side, select the Import option under the Tools option.
  10. Under the various options to import, select the WordPress option.
  11. Click on the Choose File button, and select the xml file that was downloaded earlier.
  12. Now click on the Upload file and import button at the bottom of the page.
  13. Under the Import Attachments section on the next page, check the Download and import file attachments option, and click the submit button.
  14. Now your website should have been imported into the new system.
  15. To check the same, click the username Personal Website option on the top left corner of the page, where username is your COR@L ID.
  16. In case if you are unable to view your website properly, go to the Dashboard and select the Themes option under the Appearance option.
  17. Select a different theme of your choice, and check your website once again.
  18. That's all, folks! You are all set to work on your webpage in the new system now.
