Gettysburg, PA to Frederick, MD 36 miles | Next Day Previous Day |
Wow, what a short day. It's great to have such a relaxing day since I need to do a lot to prepare for the last day tomorrow. We started out the morning touring around Gettysburg. We got free admission to the wax museum so we went and checked it out. I had never been in one before and it was actually pretty cool. After that, we toured some of the battlefields and monuments on bike and saw some more stuff than we had seen in the bus. Following the battlefield tour, we rode straight into Frederic, stopping at the MD border and at a 7-11 for a Slurpee, Mary's first! Doug and I couldn't believe she was a "Slurpee virgin." We got into camp early and I spent several hours cleaning up my bike and putting my new repaired wheel on for the final march into D.C. We had dinner and one last camp meeting before we took off to have a couple of beer on our last night on the road together. We ended up at an Applebees and had great fun. It was me, Doug, Mary, Rachel, Scott, Dave and his brother and Christian and we all came in one car. What a squeeze! Tonight, there is both anticipation and sadness as we prepare to end our journey. For my part, I'm ready to be done, though I'm sure I will miss the ride. I go to sleep excited about what the next day will bring.
