Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL)

Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) provides Windows 10 and newer the ability to run Linux binaries on Windows Machines outside of a Virtual Machine.

Overview
Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) is now available in two versions. WSL 1 and WSL 2. WSL1 provides less functionality and is closer tied to the Windows Operating System. WSL2 is more of a lightweight Virtual Machine (VM).
